There are two basic desires people want in life. They want to feel good and live without pain.
We all strive to be healthy, but how many are dead-set on doing what it takes to be healthy. The answers can be found in any American health statistics.
The biggest culprit in causing everything from chronic pain to cancer, is the amount of inflammation in the body. Keep in mind not all inflammation is bad; the body needs it at times of injury.
One of the easiest ways to keep inflammation at bay is through fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants.
A great analogy would be that of a fireplace.
When the human body experiences an injury, inflammation occurs in order to speed up the healing process. If you’ve ever noticed how a cut on your hand gets red and feels warm, that’s good inflammation setting in.
So, the heat from the inflammation is like the flame in a fireplace. When there is too much heat, the wood “pops” from inside the fireplace. As the fire gets hot enough, a spark will come from the fireplace and land on the floor in front. In some cases it will leave a burn mark on your floor.
In the case of too much inflammation, that burn mark – on the floor – can equate to an internal scaring. When this occurs in the blood stream, your veins, arteries…will start to scar. This “weakness” then becomes the first place to develop additional build-up as excessive inflammation travels through the body.
To combat this, you MUST take in antioxidants. One of the best antioxidant loaded super-fruits to fight off excess inflammation is the tart cherry.
For many, finding the best ways to get this awesome, antioxidant loaded fruit into our diet can be exhausting.
Nothing wets the appetite like a warm dessert. Though you can make this recipe with any antioxidant loaded fruit, tart cherries make it seem as if you’re eating a slice of mom’s cherry pie.
Everyone in your family will love this cobbler. Your home will hold the sweet, refreshing smell of cherry cobbler for most of the day. Just like your favorite berry scented candle.
The recipe below will soon be one of your newfavorite ways to get a hefty dose of tart cherries. Give this recipe a try. The ingredients are simple to find, and once combined, will leave a smile on your face and visions of seconds.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of tart cherries
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- Zest of lemon
- Juice of lemon (squeeze the lemon and drizzle over the top)
- 2 Tbsp. arrowroot powder
- 1 1/2 cups of almond flour
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 Tbsp. cinnamon
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a cast iron skillet, fill the bottom of the pan with cherries. Depending on the skillet, you may have to use 4 cups. Just make sure you fill the bottom.
Pour in the maple syrup, lemon zest, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
Fold in the arrowroot powder until you can’t see white anymore (this thickens the sauce the cherries make as it cools…so good).
In a bowl, use a fork to crumble together the almond flour, cinnamon, and butter.
Sprinkle over the top of the berries, drizzle the top with maple syrup and put in the oven for 30 minutes.
Then, turn the oven to low broil and cook another 3 minutes or until the top of the almond flour starts to brown. Watch it carefully! No one wants burnt cobbler.
Take it out of the oven, let it cool and enjoy.
