Greek Love: Colemans’ For A Change

By Briana Augustus — September 25, 2012

Love is in the air — Coleman Love that is. The Greek-lettered public service organizations of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Sigma Chapter, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Beta Psi and Psi Chapters celebrated brotherhood and sisterhood by commemorating with Coleman Love Week.

The week was filled with events that touched on issues in the Atlanta University Center  students often face. “The Perfect Qatch” and “Dstinguished Men” were break off events that catered to the young men and women of the AUC teaching them how to make the right decisions pertaining to sex, relationships, dating, politics and how to carry themselves accordingly.

“The President and his First Lady” was done in conjunction with the student organization Chachoom Element and was a very detailed seminar about the presidential candidates and their thoughts on the issues that this country faces. The event was non biased and shed a light on the issues while hoping to persuade students to vote for the candidate that will move this country forward regardless of his skin color or political affiliation.

Danielle Brown, member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., reflected on the purpose of Coleman Week at CAU. “Coleman Week truly shows the Clark Atlanta University community what it means to be a part of a meaningful organization. Our week showcased programs that focused on healthy relationships, career development, politics, and humanitarianism.”
Lloyd Reeves, member of Omega Psi Phi, says the week equals bonding. “Coleman Love means that I get to work really closely with my favorite sorority. I get to pick their brains and find out how they do things and it gives us a chance to just love on each other and be apart of a powerful movement.”

The week concluded with the organizations giving back to the community by serving lunch to the homeless. The day was filled with positivity as the community engaged in doing the electric slide, singing, and watching the prominent organizations stroll and step.

This week of events is just a taste of what is to be expected from the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated as they are preparing to celebrate their centennial in January.
