There are mixed emotions about Rev. Creflo Dollar and his recent cruelty to children & simple battery charges. It was reported that his 15 year old daughter called police after an altercation with her father took place because she could not go to a party because of poor grades.
Dollar said that he went into the kitchen and asked his daughter why was she crying and she became “very disrespectful” and hit him. This is what allegedly sparked the reaction from Dollar to wrestle the girl to the floor and spank her.
The statements given by the 19 year old daughter who witnessed the altercation are somewhat flawed. She gave police a verbal account of events that lined up with her sister’s story, yet her first written story lined up with her dad’s story. When questioned by police she told them she wrote that story because she was around her parents. When separated from her parents her written story lined up with what she previously told officers. Rev. Dollar was arrested and later released on $5,000 bail.
Many feel that there was nothing wrong with Dollar disciplining his child for being disrespectful. Others feel that the 15 year old is no longer a child and that despite the fact that she hit her father, he should not have hit her or “spanked” her since spankings are for children.
Since when is it ever okay for a child to hit let alone raise their hand at their parent? Since when do children run their parents households? Some say that times are different and the best form of discipline is simply taking privileges away. Older parents and adults say that when they were growing up, at the first hint of disrespect their parents would “knock their block off.” They said it wasn’t the streets that they were afraid of– they were scared of their parents, grandparents, and the whole neighborhood contributing to their good ol’ fashioned spanking.
Maybe we should get back to those times. What are your thoughts on the matters of this situation and disciplining children in today’s society?
