Cafe Circa: Fine Dining in Atlanta’s Historic Old Fourth Ward
As if Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward hasn’t given us a reason to frequent the area with its historic cultural sites, budding redevelopments, and groovy hangouts that make you feel like your re-living a ‘Love Jones’ moment, then insert Cafe Circa with their new menu, new chef and a new reason to fall in love all over again with their location.
At first thought you may not consider Cafe Circa as the spot to celebrate a 7 year anniversary, however after checking out my friend Chris’s instagram photos of some of their dishes, the hubby and I decided this would be the place to dine.
Cafe Circa may be known to some as a trendy weekend hangout with the option of having a rooftop experience, but with the installment of Chef Anthony, Cafe Circa is becoming more than a place to come for appetizers, cocktails, and a premium cigar.
Chef Anthony Sanders, says the menu is a work in progress, and promises all the trimmings of a fine dining experience without feeling stuffy or over-working your pockets. Although they have a short list of house rules they’d like you to adhere to, I believe dancing in your seat is permitted, and may be what you revert to as you taste the robust caribbean flavors that burst in your mouth at first bite. Beyond the food, Cafe Circa has staying power with a ‘Cheers’ affect; where everybody knows your name.
Curry Lamb Lollipops Roti “Panzanela” in Citrus Gravy was divine!
Crispy Green Tomatoes with Smoked Jalapeno Mayo+Herb Salsa gave a bit of a southern twang
Oxtail “Osso Buco” This dish was amazing! Creamy Rice+Peas, Brown Butter Plantains (Best I’ve had), Natural Pan Jus
Cumin Dusted Salmon (Fabulous!) with Avocado Emulsion, Charred Tomatoes, Yucca Frites, Crab Mojo
N.Y. Strip Steak with Saffron Potatoes, Asparagus+ Guajillo Red Wine Sauce (super tender)
Warm Peach Cobbler with a dollop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
I’ve only sampled the Peach Cobbler at Cafe Circa, but it’s worth saving a bite at the end of your meal. Although the dessert menu isn’t as extensive and unique as the entree’s offered, each is plentiful and certainly a close second to your grandma’s sweet treats. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the selections and no matter what you decide to indulge in you’ll leave happy. Don’t forget to head upstairs to the Rooftop to dance and work off some that food! Bon Appetite!
