We go through life often times not realizing that the smallest decisions we make everyday impacts our environment tremendously. Cox Conserves invited Atlanta Tastemaker Magazine and other community influencers to their headquarters on April 11th to learn more about what they are doing to remain economically conscious and what we can do to assist in their efforts.
During the luncheon we learned that Cox Enterprises has over 83,000 employees and in December 2008, announced that the company was bringing together three media units–Cox Newspapers, Cox Television and Cox Radio and in addition to media holdings, Cox Enterprises owns Manheim Auctions and has a majority stake in AutoTrader.com.
Cox is excited about going green, in fact their electronic waste events have collected 250 tons of recyclable waste since 2007 and their H2O projects save 20 million gallons of water which is the equivalent to 30 Olympic swimming pools! In practically every aspect of Cox Enterprise they are finding ways to improve business. In Orange County, Ca., Cox Communications is using their roof space on its 300,000 square foot headquarters building to house 600 solar panels that reduce the company’s dependence on conventional power sources and eliminate approximately 100 tons of greenhouse gasses per year.
Cox also holds the largest fleet of hybrid cars that can run on biodiesel. If you’re a Cox employee doing your part to go green by taking alternate transportation, like a library book you can check out a hybrid car to go grab lunch or make a quick errand.
If you’ve never been educated about what going green really means, stories heard by everyday heroes and sheroes like those who give their time at coxconservesheroes.com will begin to ignite excitement about what you can do to go green. April 22 is Earth Day and we want to help you get started with going green with these 5 easy tips you can take to help our environment.
5 Tips for Living a Green Lifestyle:
1. When cleaning around the house use Baking soda and lemon which are natural alternatives to chemical cleaners.
2.Unplug unused appliances. Electronics use 40% of their full running power when left on standby.
3. If you have to print a document or email, just print the text you need.
4. Using cruise control on the highway helps maintain a constant speed and save gas.
5. Don’t leave your car idle. 10 seconds of idling uses more gas than stopping and restarting your engine.
